Jim was a career Army man, enlisting at just 17 years old.  He retired at 38, after a stint in Viet Nam, where he was a journalist responsible for the first full color publication to come out of Viet Nam.  After his retirement, he helped to found OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Health Administration).  He helped to develop all informational brochures, and often wrote speeches for the Secretary of Labor regarding OSHA.

During his 23-year career with OSHA, Jim’s quest for knowledge continued.  He went to night school at NOVA, earning an associate’s degree in accounting, and hanging out an accounting shingle in 1985.  He had a small following of 35 loyal clients, many of whom still see Foster Financial Group today for their continued tax needs.

When the opportunity presented itself for Jim to entice me into his business, he convinced me to “just try taxes” to see if I liked it.  Needless to say, it was the beginning of a 12 year work-collaboration that enhanced the already close relationship I had with my dad.

He passed away in 2010, but this page and photo remain in memory of him and the wonderful business he founded over 35 years ago.  His mentorship has allowed the business to continue and flourish.
